Communities usually start with families. One family builds a home on a piece of land and moves into it, then within a short period of time, another home pops up nearby. Soon there is development happening everywhere, and those first residents sit back and watch as their little community grows by leaps and bounds.
In the case of Levittown, it was the houses themselves that launched the community.
The year was 1945. World War II was ending, and at the same time, residents in the tiny farming town of Island Trees, New York were selling off their property as fast as they could. The golden nematode had decimated the valuable potato crops, making the land useless.

HIGH POINT — Earl Wang, a long time sales and merchandising executive at case goods resource American Drew and sister youth bedroom resource Lea Inds. has left the organization.
Company officials did not discuss the reasons for his departure, which occurred around the first week in November.
Wang, who was not available for comment, had been with Lea and American Drew for about nine years. He was most recently senior vice president of merchandising at both companies.
American Drew and Lea are among the case goods divisions of La-Z-Boy. La-Z-Boy officials did not say whether the company plans to fill the position externally or have someone else in the company take on the responsibilities.
For the most part, I think it’s one of those things you either love or hate. The color pink, that is. But for me, I think pink is one of the most sensational colors there is! Thanksgiving is upon us and what a day it will be: Reuniting with family and friends; getting outside for that annual flag football game with your favorite cousins; and of course – all that delicious food.
