Finally being a some-what “adult,” and by that I simply mean a college graduate, I’ve began taking my Christmas shopping a little more seriously. It sure helps having a little of my own cash to spend! My list of people to buy for this year is about as wide and varied as you can imagine; from 3-month-old twin girls, to an impossible to shop for boyfriend, to all the uniquely individual members of my dear family. About a decade after a quickly growing weed and a vicious frog species infested a secluded pond in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco officials say they are close to a solution.

Once a crystal-clear reflecting pond sequestered on a short trail off John F. Kennedy Drive, the Lily Pond is now so overgrown by duckweed that it’s hard to tell that there is any water below the marshy surface. Getting rid of the plant has been complicated by a population of African clawed frogs, an invasive species that can grow up to 5 inches long and will consume anything that will fit in its mouth.
